Despite the many problems attached with being a girl, there are those (albeit sometimes rare) times when being a girl can be so much fun — pampering being one of those delightful perks. I’ve often written at length on this blog about quicker ways of getting glam, but there are times when you simply crave a little indulgence, and I think I may have just stumbled across the mecca of feel-good, girly heaven; a place where the art of a good pamper session has been suitably refined.

I won’t lie to you, I’d already heard pretty great things about Blush + Blow — Fulham’s (if not London’s) hottest blow dry salon on New King’s Road, which opened its doors earlier this year. The Pinterest-worthy interiors had been stalked by yours truly on Instagram at great length for some time.

From the minute you step inside you immediately feel like you’re on some kind of film set — it really is just beautiful, with it’s uber comfy Chesterfield sofa in the waiting ‘nook’ where a table of flowers and the latest fashion mags await until you’re swiftly taken to one of the grey leather seats on the row in front of oversized gold-framed mirrors. Opposite you have the till, lined with trinkets and products, and the nail bar. Move through the salon and you have a wall with built in shelving for customers to select from the never-ending range of Essie nail polishes, Vinyl nail polishes, and Shellac products. There’s also the makeup station, an area for hair washing and plush seating for pedicures, complete with elaborate gold basins. Downstairs is the treatment room for massages, waxing, and the like.

Being a blow dry virgin (I know, I know) I was excited. I was introduced to one of the team of cheery girls who guided me to the back of the salon where she ran a cleanser through my hair, followed by shampoo, conditioner and quite possibly one of the best head massages I’ve ever experienced. Chatting to her, I was particularly impressed with her knowledge of each of the products, what they did, product recommendations for my hair type, and how enthusiastic she seemed about the salon. They’ve undoubtedly had great success since opening, with booking required in advance if you want to be lucky to bag a weekend appointment — it gets busy! Even the owner Bridget goes out of her way to say hello and make you feel at home. It’s a really nice personal touch which I’ve found other salons can lack.

Having a manicure as well as a blow dry, after my hair wash I selected my chosen polish from the nail wall (a creature of habit, I went for a nude shade as always!) and made my way to the nail bar for my manicure while my hair was being dried and put into rollers. I sat there imagining that this is how Kate Middleton must feel everyday as her team ferry round her to get her looking immaculate!

My nails are always a big ‘thing’ for me, and I have a gel polish every three-four weeks, so I am no stranger to getting my nails done. Blush + Blow however really go to town with their manicures, leaving nothing unfiled, no cuticle untouched and ensure the greatest care has gone into every last detail. I don’t know what I was more impressed with, the polish application itself or how beautifully soft my hands felt by the end of it.

Above all though I was blown away (apologies for the pun!) with the blow dry itself. My hair is annoyingly fine and flat, so imagine my surprise when even after running round London, jumping on tubes and trains, my hair still was more bouncy, bouffant and well-kept than it has ever been. I couldn’t stop admiring it. The picture above was actually taken at 1.30am, some 8 hours AFTER leaving the salon! From the moment I left the salon I felt nothing but positive and couldn’t wait to gush about my experience. It’s quite rare that somewhere leaves me feeling so confident about returning, but Blush + Blow really did provide such a memorable experience and I for one can not wait to go back for another treatment. This is one blow dry salon worth visiting as it offers a one-stop-shop for all your beauty needs, and at reasonable prices that won’t break the bank. You can expect to pay £25 for a blow dry, manicures start at £25, and a 30 minute massage will only set you back £40. You can check their ‘menu’ of treatments here. If that wasn’t enough, they’re child and dog friendly too. Five stars!
